WILL A CAR LIFT FIT IN MY GARAGE?

Every garage is different and there are 3 factors that will determine if a car lift will fit:

  • floor space
  • ceiling height
  • garage door placement

If you can park your vehicle in the garage then you have enough floor space for a car lift. Your garage ceiling needs a minimum height of approximately 10 feet.

The last thing is the garage door. You may need a high lift conversion for your door so it opens at a higher level within your garage. Contact us. In most cases, we can tell you over the phone if you can fit a car lift in your garage.

car lift faq

What types of car lifts do you offer for a home garage?

We primarily offer 4-post car lifts for residential garages. In Garage Living, we have models with lifting capacities of 8,000–9,000 lbs designed for home use. These lifts offer a drive-on platform design, which is more user-friendly for everyday use (you simply drive your car onto the runways) and they’re very stable, ideal for parking and longer-term vehicle storage.

For most residential car lifts, your garage ceiling should be at least 10 feet high (minimums range from about 9 feet up to 13 feet depending on the lift and vehicles involved).

As for floor space, if you can already park your vehicle in the garage, you generally have enough floor area for a car lift. However, you should also account for your garage door track and operator. Sometimes these need a high-lift conversion to avoid interfering with the lift.

The installation process for a car lift involves a professional assessment of your garage, ensuring adequate ceiling height, concrete thickness, and power supply. Preparatory steps require clearing the workspace and addressing any floor repairs if needed. The actual installation is handled by trained professionals and most car lift installations are completed within a few days, depending on your garage's conditions and the project's scope.

Yes, there are some important electrical and structural considerations before installing a car lift:

Concrete thickness: A concrete slab 4-5 inches thick is generally recommended to safely support a car lift. Installers will inspect your floor to ensure it meets requirements.
Anchoring: Most 4-post lifts do not require anchors due to better stability, though they can be anchored if you prefer.
Electrical power: Many lifts use a 110V motor compatible with standard outlets, but some require 220V, which may need an electrician to upgrade your garage circuit.
Professional installation: Due to safety and weight, professional installation and inspection are strongly advised.
