FDH6lKUXEAwvx68Garage Living is proud to be participating in GivingTuesday, the global generosity movement that benefits charities, nonprofit organizations, and local communities.

GivingTuesday is an independent nonprofit organization that works with a global network of participants. Their work encourages and facilitates acts of “radical generosity” year-round. A big yearly celebration event occurs on the Tuesday following the American Thanksgiving, which is November 30th this year.

The goals of GivingTuesday are to:

  • Make giving more central in daily life.
  • Unleash the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.
  • Inspire hundreds of millions of people in a global movement to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
  • Build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe.

How Garage Living (and you) are helping GivingTuesday

In celebration of this day, Garage Living will donate a portion of all sales from all new garage improvement projects booked between November 1st to November 30th, 2021 to Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. Their amazing work is carried out daily by volunteers in local communities across the U.S., Canada, and in dozens of other countries around the world.

Since being founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 35 million people build, repair, and preserve their homes.

GivingTuesday’s history

GivingTuesday began in 2012 when Henry Timms, the executive director of New York’s 92nd Street Y (a renowned cultural and community center), wanted to come up with a day that encouraged collective generosity.

Timms figured that if people were opening up their wallets on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (two of the biggest shopping days of the year)‚ perhaps some of that inclination to spend could be directed towards charities.

That small idea has grown into a global movement that is now active in 75 countries. GivingTuesday’s philanthropic endeavors support many worthwhile charities and nonprofit organizations that are seeking to make the world a better place.

Here are just a few of the wide variety of causes that benefit from the donations:

  • pediatric medical research
  • combatting child hunger and poverty
  • helping the homeless
  • creating affordable housing
  • animal welfare

Who else participates in the GivingTuesday initiative?

GivingTuesday has been supported by some of the biggest companies in the world and their customers. Some of these brands include:

  • Ford Motor Company
  • PayPal
  • the NFL
  • McDonald’s
  • PetSmart
  • Nike
  • Microsoft

Participating companies are contributing in a number of ways, such as making direct donations, matching donations from their customers, and donating a portion of their profits from GivingTuesday.

Every act of generosity counts

Many charities have struggled during the pandemic, so it’s the perfect time to join the hundreds of companies and communities and millions of consumers who are generously donating to do some good.
