5 step coating process for Rhino Floortex garage floors

New Flooring In Less Than A Day

In as little as a day, your garage flooring project can be completed. The Garage Living of Sioux Falls crew will arrive on-site at approximately 8:30 a.m. and meet with the customer. After explaining what’s involved with our process, they’ll answer any questions and then get right to work transforming the customer’s garage floor. Our trucks have every possible tool and piece of equipment the job will require, effectively functioning as a mobile workshop. The Garage Living 5 Steps outlines our professional Floortex™ floor coating application process.

Step 1 – Diamond grind the floor surface

The most important step in the process is proper preparation. Garage Living of Sioux Falls has invested in state-of-the-art Werkmaster™ diamond grinders and dustless self-contained vacuum systems. This equipment ensures that every floor we coat achieves an unbreakable mechanical bond to the substrate. On-site, our crew evaluates the concrete density to select the right type of diamond blades for grinding the floor. Diamond grinding profiles the substrate and opens the pores of the concrete. A dolly-mounted hand grinder is then used to grind down the edges. The coating can be applied to vertical surfaces such as foundation walls, cinder block, steps, and wood baseboards.

Step 2 – Crack and chip repair

Naturally occurring hairline cracks will appear on concrete pads. To remedy this, we open up the cracks using a diamond cutting wheel, followed by an application of polyurea joint filler. After the filler cures in 10-15 minutes, our crew will grind the excess down. This makes the cracks invisible, leaves the garage floor completely smooth, and readies the surface for the next step, the base coat.

Step 3 – Pigmented adhesive base coat

The 2-component mix also includes pigment that matched the customer’s choice of pre-blended vinyl chips. The crew first rolls the base coat on all vertical surfaces and then applies the base coat to the entire floor surface.

Step 4 – Decorative Floortex™ flakes

The Garage Living of Sioux Falls crew spreads three times the amount of Floortex™ flakes on the floor, which results in 100% coverage. Once the coating has cured after 60 minutes, we scrape the floor with a flat metal-edge tool. This will leave an even, smooth surface by eliminating any standing flakes.

Step 5 – Clear, durable Floortex™ top coat

The top coat is applied with a squeegee for a thick and even finish and then back rolled to ensure a finish that is consistent. Foot traffic can resume in 8 hours after the top coat has cured and vehicle traffic may resume after 24 hours.
