Steve Wilkins has been a member of the Garage Living executive team since 2014. As Vice-President of Franchise Development, Steve is responsible for recruiting new franchisees and getting all franchise locations successfully to market. He works with the new franchises to secure proper financing and assists them in procuring the equipment they’ll require.

Steve’s background includes 30 years with the Yellow Pages Group, which involved sales, sales management, sales training, and new product development responsibilities. Following his time at Yellow Pages, Steve worked with a Toronto advertising agency and eventually left to start his own successful Toronto-area garage door and car lift business.

Recognizing the robust growth opportunity of Garage Living’s business model, he enthusiastically joined the company to head up their franchise development. Steve’s extensive sales background is a huge asset in helping new franchises develop successful sales strategies.

As a longtime automotive enthusiast, Steve has owned many vintage Corvettes and is involved in the Corvette community. He has rebuilt and restored numerous classics over the years. Steve also loves motorcycles, especially his new Harley-Davidson Road Glide, and is a member of the Harley Owners Group.

Steve is married to Maureen and has three children and one grandson. He’s a big sports fan and enjoys being involved in coaching hockey and baseball with his son and middle daughter.

As a member of Garage Living’s Executive team, Ron’s role as GM and VP of Franchise Operations is to work with his team to ensure franchisees are seamlessly recruited, on-boarded and supported with the ultimate goal of running a high performing and rewarding location.

His background in various franchise companies and family run franchises positions him with a unique corporate and franchisee perspective. He started working with his family in the Canadian retail gasoline sector with a Petro Canada franchise, then running 1 of 3 family owned Oil Changers franchises in the Greater Toronto Area, from here he moved into the corporate world joining Canadian Tire managing a 24 location/$200MM region of franchises and finally helped Mr. Lube manage their 75 location Walmart franchise portfolio across Canada before joining Garage Living.

Along the way, he has participated in several start up companies and is still actively involved as a member of their boards. Ron joined Garage Living because he sees it as a company with a huge growth trajectory and ultimately a great place for him to apply his experience to help guide and shape its future.

When not at work, Ron takes an active role in his community by volunteering his time. He volunteers as chair of his children’s parent council, is a parks & trails ambassador and participates in helping small business owners in an advisory capacity. For fun, Ron is passionate about European cars - both the customization and maintenance of them and can be found in his garage on any given weekend working on one of his cars.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

What will I receive as part of the Garage Living franchise system?

We will provide up to three weeks of pre-opening training at our corporate training center, including both classroom sessions and hands-on training with corporate sales and installation staff. We will also provide you and your staff with on-site training around the time of your location’s grand opening, lasting up to three days. As a franchise owner, you will have access to all of Garage Living’s trademarks, approved product suppliers, and our exclusive business model and procedures. We’ll also present you with a copy of our confidential operations manual to help you run your home improvement franchise business properly on a day-to-day basis.

What type of prior experience do I need to have?

Garage Living franchise owners are not required to have prior construction or remodeling industry experience, but it can be helpful to understand the basics of running a business like ours. In fact, we welcome the opportunity to open a dialogue with existing similar or complementary home improvement businesses who wish to add the Garage Living system to their current operations. In general, we are seeking franchise candidates who have good communications and customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and a dedication to the local community. A solid understanding of business management is also important, and sales skills are also helpful. We expect that franchise owners have adequate capital to invest in the business, and we also expect franchise owners to be directly involved in the daily operations of the franchise business. But regardless of your background, we will provide the training and tools you need to run your Garage Living franchise effectively.

How much will the Garage Living franchise investment cost me?

The projected initial investment range for a single start-up location is between $236,750 and $313,500. This investment amount includes a franchise fee of $60,000. As with any new business venture, it’s important that you have the capital needed to adequately fund your new business.

Is financing available?

We are an approved SBA franchisor (USA only) which enables new franchises to secure funding (OAC) from $150,000 for working capital.

Are there other ongoing fees paid to the franchisor?

Franchisees will be required to pay royalties at a rate of 6.5% of gross revenues. These royalties allow us to fund our ongoing support services and the continued development of products and procedures, marketing tools, training programs, and systems upgrades.

Are there any advertising fees?

Franchisees will be required to spend 6% of gross revenues toward local marketing efforts in their territory. Franchisees will also contribute 2% of gross revenues into the system marketing fund. Collected funds will be used to develop marketing strategies to promote the Garage Living brand and fund the creative costs to develop any local franchise marketing materials and campaigns.

What is the term of the franchise agreement?

The initial term of your franchise agreement is five years, with two subsequent renewal terms of five years each.
